How this was calculated

Lookup mode: Uses ASME B36.10/B36.19 pipe dimensions. The NPS and schedule determine the OD and wall thickness, from which weight per foot is derived.

Weight formula: W/ft = 10.6802 × (OD - t) × t for plain-end carbon steel. For other materials, multiply by the ratio of material density to steel density (0.2833 lb/in³).

Cross-section area: A = pi/4 × (OD² - ID²), where ID = OD - 2t.

Understanding Pipe Weight Per Foot

Pipe weight per foot is fundamental to drilling, completions, and facilities engineering -- essential for rig capacity planning, hook load calculations, and structural design. Standard carbon steel pipe weights follow ASME B36.10M. This calculator supports NPS lookup and custom OD/wall with material density adjustments. All calculations run in your browser.
